might be considered. First, County Administrator John McCarthy and others have suggested that the county move to staggered terms for our Board of Supervisors. By avoiding a “clean sweep” election in the future, we would preserve experience and continuity in our local government.
Second, expand the Board of Supervisors from five members to seven, including two supervisors elected at large. In Rappahannock County, we elect our five supervisors by magisterial district, whereas in neighboring Madison County, like Rappahannock a small rural county, all seven supervisors are elected at large.
Each system has advantages and disadvantages. Voting by district insures that supervisors keep close touch
