The Irish Collection in Occoquan has been such a success since it was opened 12 years ago that it was a natural for owner Ellen Jones to think about a second store when a space opened in Middleburg last July. (Oddly enough, the Irish Collection is located where the nowclosed Irish Crystal store used to be.)
“My parents are Irish,” Jones explained. “I’m an artist. I do paintings of local, historical scenes and local colleges. I’ve also done paintings of Irish scenes, and some of them are available as limited-edition prints.”

The Irish Collection features a number of items that one would expect to find in a store that focuses on Ireland.
“We have jewelry, crystal, Balleek china — we’re the largest dealer in the area for Balleek — woolen items and gifts,” Jones said. “About 98 percent of the things we have in here are from Ireland.”
One of the unique services that The Irish Collection can offer is help planning a wedding.
“We can help someone plan a Celtic or an Irish wedding,” Jones explained. “We can give someone a lot of ideas, from necklaces and jewelry to bridesmaid’s gifts, bride’s men’s gifts, wedding kilts ... and we do a lot of wedding bands. The Celtic Warrior ring is a big seller.”
Jones makes several trips each year to Ireland to meet with suppliers and to scope out new products.
