Luke said she felt the county was fortunate to have gotten in the 25-acre land restrictions early and that she’s troubled by what she sees in the surrounding counties.

“You don’t have to drive far into these counties to see subdivisions," Luke said. “They serve their purpose, but they don’t have to be everywhere. Rappahannock is so beautiful, I’d hate to see that happen.”

“We have great zoning now,” she said, “but what if the county government had a different makeup in the future?”

Luke noted that a lot of the conservation-minded people are weekend residents who don’t get to vote, and it is conceivable the county government could change.

“Now this land easement is not at risk to a zoning change,” Luke said.
