Photo courtesy of Bill Payne Fueled by a disappointing runner-up finish in the recent Virginia Babe Ruth Softball District 3 tournament hosted by Amissville’s Piedmont Softball Association in Rappahannock County June 22-June 26, Piedmonts own 18 and Under All-Star team went back to work in hopes of capturing the state championship in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. Hosted by Blue Ridge Softball League, the state Babe Ruth Softball tourney involved 42 teams (all ages) from all over Virginia July 7 - July 10 with games played from dawn into the night each day on six diamonds from the tournament’s start. When the dust settled in Stuarts Draft over the weekend, the Piedmont girls were undefeated at this level, winning their final playoff game 12-0. This state championship title advances the team to the Babe Ruth Southeast Regional tournament hosted by Pitt County Girls Softball Association of Greeneville, NC, the week of July 27-31. These Piedmont girls are already making fundraising plans for their trip; contributions to assist the team with travelaccommodations will be appreciated and may be sent to: PSA, P.O.
