could take action, he recommended that he be authorized to hire an architect to look into the feasibility of converting the space. The Board agreed.
Escrow fund
for new track
Rappahannock County superintendent of schools, Dr. Bob Chappell, discussed the revised budget for the schools, with special emphasis on the School Board’s request for approval of a “construction escrow account” in the amount of $376,000 for the Rappahannock County High School’s new track. Chappell indicated that it might make it easier to get estimates from contractors if the money were already set aside in escrow. Several members of the board of supervisors inquired if that were necessary since the track’s construction has been approved. Chappell agreed that although this might help to secure bids, it was not critical. The Board took no action.
Rural Addition
Eligibility
There was a brief discussion of the “Rural Addition Eligibility”- road funds program offered by the state. However, Rappahannock County—along with most other nearby counties—are not amending their regulations to qualify for the funds. The small funds available for the county—perhaps $15,000, does not make changing the county’s regulations worthwhile. VDOT’s good work
The Board commended VDOT’s representative for the good work they have been doing in the county on road repairs and construction. Gwen Hays of Castleton, speaking from the audience, seconded that compliment and noted that she was particularly appreciative of the quick response she has received from VDOT’s road repair web site
