Talk-ln Real Estate 'N Radon Should 1 get a Radon Test on the purchase on my new home? When people ask me if they should get a radon test 1 always answer YES. The answer is always better safe than sorry. Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that could cause serious respiratory problems for those who inhale it. Homes are being built much more energy efficient and with less ventilation these day’s. Concentrations of Radon gas could be much higher in these homes verses the older homes of years gone by. A relatively simple test will let you know what levels of Radon are present in your home; If levels are too high Radon Remediation may be required to ventilate your home of this gas. The cost for doing this will vary depending on the sire and style of your home but for an average home will range between $ 1,000 and $ 1,500. Some of the new homes being built have a Radon Remidiation system pre-installed in case it is needed later. Ask about it if you are buying a new home. It is a good idea to have your house tested for Radon. A Radon Test will help insure the safety of your family and will be useful information to pass on to future owners of the property.
