“Of course, we will take the boys for eight weeks,” we said, without hesitation. “Ye gads! What are we going to do with two little boys for eight weeks?” we said to each other. This is the longest of many visits to Spenyville by our grandsons, Joe (6V2) and Skyler OV2). This presented the greatest joy .. ..and the greatest challenge. Whenever the boys visit Rappahannock, we enjoy just hanging around in the yard, playing in the sprinkler, building bonfires for “s’mores” or going on nature walks. Each visit with our delightful and precocious grandsons is a gift and a dilemma. Since they are seldom here for less than a week, Ray and I found ourselves searching for ways to structure the time with a balance of playing at home and having creative challenging experiences. We watched very little television and didn’t play video games. The youngest grandson, Anthony, is now 11 months old, and he will be a regular visitor, so we need to get ready for him, too.
