Revised, lower bids for the proposed new auxiliary gym and elementary school band classroom have been submitted by the Lantz Construction Company. Since original estimates were submitted, construction costs nationwide have typically sky-rocketed. When the single bid was submitted in March of this year, it came in $805,000 higher than the initial estimate for the job and more than half a million above the most recent estimate.
Lantz Construction, already working on heating and air conditioning upgrades at the elementary school, was asked to submit a new, pared down, bare hones bid.
School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell reported on the revised bid to the School Board on Tuesday evening.
Lantz’s new bid is for $1,907,000 for both a new gym and new band room as a package. If done individually: $719,846 for the band addition and $1,269,000 for the gym if done separately. Half the savings in the revised bid come from eliminating brick veneer from the exterior of the addition.
The revised bid is $81,846 less expensive than Lantz’s previous bid, but still well over half a million dollars higher than originally estimated or about a third of the total.
The bid is ostensibly valid until August 2nd. Chappell noted, “We don’t have any assurance that the contractor will be okay with going beyond (August 2nd) so we should set up an interim board meeting,” which if needed, would occur
