Many Virginians know little about hospice care, which provides compassionate and dignified end-of-life care for terminally ill patients and those who care for them. People tend to avoid discussing the possible death of a loved one, as these discussions are understandably uncomfortable. Tb help make learning about hospice more accessible during November - which is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month — many programs are being offered to help people understand more about this invaluable system of care.
In November, local hospice providers are putting a “face” on quality end-of-life care: the . faces of nurses, doctors, social workers, spiritual caregivers, home care aides and volunteers who provide services and support to families during one of life’s most challenging times. These are the dedicated people who offer pain and symptom control, dignity, and spiritual and emotional care for both dying persons and their loved ones when a cure is not possible.
