Once each year, the Rappahannock League
for Environmental Protection (RLEP), members and friends come together to review and appreciate the accomplishments of the year, hold elections of new directors, recognize members who have distinguished themselves in supporting RLEFs mission, and share a social evening of fun with all who want to preserve the natural resources and rural character of Rappahannock County.
The entire community is invited. Mark your calendar for 7:30 p.m., Friday, October 27, at the Fire Hall in Flint Hill.
This year the RLEP Board of Directors will give a new award, the “Spirit Award,” to someone from the Rappahannock community who practices what RLEP preaches, all on their own, without fanfare or expectation of public recognition or reward. Come find out who our local hero is this year!
We will have displays and presentations on programs RLEP sponsored this year. Our Biodiversity Task Force has been busy, starting with a Spring Nature Series that included a presentation on peregrine falcon restoration in Shenandoah National Park and walks for identifying migratory songbirds and native wildflowers. During the summer, the Task Force organized the first Rappahannock butterfly count and held a butterfly identification workshop. Biodiversity Task Force Coordinator Pam Owen will give an audiovisual presentation summarizing the group’s accomplishments and plans for future programs, including this fall in Rappahannock County.
