Homecoming tragedy
A 17-year-old male driving a small SUV collided with a motorcyclist on Highway 211 as he was turning into the Rappahannock High School. The accident occurred on October 21, at 2:43 p.m. during the Rappahannock High School Homecoming football game.
Cecil Robbins, 44, of Woodbridge, Virginia was traveling on his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle, eastbound on Highway 211 when he was struck on the left side by the young mam’s 2007 Ford Escape. Virginia State Trooper Don Corbin responded to the scene, while Rappahannock County Sheriff Officials directed traffic and removed debris from the road. Spectators at the football game were asked to delay departure following the game to allow emergency vehicles time to leave the scene.
Robbins was severely injured in the left leg and was airlifted to Fairfax Hospital.
Mangled Miata
Bruce Wood, 42, of Front Royal, overturned his 1995 Mazda Miata on Route 522 near Chester Gap as he swerved to avoid an animal.
The accident occurred at 12:21 a.m. on October 18. Virginia State Trooper Brian Johnson responded. Wood was exceeding the speed limit before swerving to miss the animal, according to the State police office in Warrenton. Wood was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
