Studio and Gallery Tour

This year will mark the second annual event which drew over a 1,000 visitors last year. A food court has been added this year in Sperryville! Stop by the Washington Fire Hall, pick up your map and head out to discover or rediscover your favorite artist. The event will be held on November 4 and 5, from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. rain or shine. A suggested $10 donation per person will be used to support the work of the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community. For more information, check out www. Nov. 4: Dinner for the well

Please come for a dinner of special foods from South Africa to help raise money for a well to serve a clinic helping with the AIDS crisis in a remote region of South Africa. The Rev. Nigel Mollink, rector of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Aukland Park, outside Johannesburg, South Africa, and his parishioners are helping in a rural area outside Matatiele. Folks at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, who enjoyed Rev. Mollink’s services during Jenks Hobson’s sabbaticals in 2001 and 2006, seek to help him and his parishioners with this vital ministry by raising money to drill a well for the new clinic and counseling center. With a supply of safe water, health can be greatly improved. In addition, people in this remote region can irrigate gardens and grow some of their own food. Parishioners of the South African Church have collected recipes that reflect the varied cuisines that to make up South African cooking today. Try such delicacies as Goqwana Isopho (a Xhoxo bean soup), Chicken Sosaties, and Merktert (Milk Tart). There is no charge for the dinner, but contributions are greatly accepted. Dinner will be served at Trinity Episcopal from 6 p. m. till the food gives out. There will also be an opportunity to view a video of this ministry and see photos of those who are being helped.

Nov. 4: Aquila Theatre

Highland School’s Center for the Arts presents the Aquila Theatre Company on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. This nationally-renowned touring company - a group of British and American artists dedicated to classical drama - will present Romeo and Juliet. Nov. 4, 5: Children’s Auditions

Ki Theatre will hold auditions for its holiday production, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5 from 2 to 4 p. m. The play is a delightful comedy about a community that learns the meaning of Christmas from the most irreligious family in town. Performances are December 8, 9,10. Rehearsals will be held on weekends throughout November. There are 17 parts, many principal speaking roles and a large number of angel and shepherd roles. Young people from age 4 through teens are invited to audition. If possible, please prepare a short story or nursery rhyme (minute or two), bring a recent photograph, and wear comfortable clothes.
