Nov. 14,15,16: Basic Hunter
Safety Education Course
There will be a Basic Hunter Safety Education Course on November 14-16 from 5-9 p. m., at the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department. To register or for more information contact: Emily Roop at (540) 987-8019 or email flying mammal@hotmail.com. This class is limited to 25 participants. You must be able to attend all three nights. This course is mandatory for individuals who are 16 years or older and have never held a hunting license. There is no charge for the course.
Nov 15: High school suicide
prevention program
The RCHS Guidance Department is proud to have Alan Rasmussen, a suicide prevention specialist, present a suicide intervention program to our parents and community from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mr. Rasmussen will address alarming local statistics, warning signs, risk factors, and intervention techniques. Dinner, a silent auction, bake sale and music will be held on November 18 at Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department at 6:30 p.m. We are looking for donated items for a silent auction. Tickets are $25 a couple, $15 a single $8 ten under. Tickets are being sold in advance or you may purchase your ticket at door. Nov. 30: Training to
handle emergencies
The next Rappahannock-Rapidan Medical Reserve Corps (RRMRC) training will be on biologic agents: Category A from 7:15 - 9p. m., on November 30. There will be an orientation for new volunteers prior to the training from 6-7 pm. The training and orientation will take place at the Culpeper Emergency Operation Center. To learn the answers to these questions or to schedule a presentation on personal and family emergency preparedness for your group, organization or church, contact RRMRC as above. The presentation covers emergencies from floods to pandemic flu. It can last anywhere from 20 minutes without questions to 45 minutes with questions. Information packets are provided.
Dec 2: Fifth Annual
“Art from the heart” show
Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS) is hosting its 5th Annual “Art from the Heart” show on Saturday, December 2. Acting as an “art gallery for a day,” WCDS will provide a venue to admire the works of well-known area artists in a variety of media, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, bronzes and jewelry. This year’s show will begin at 7:00 p. m. in the school’s Leonard M. Cowherd Auditorium. The reception is $50 per person and will include a cocktail buffet, silent auction of professional works, and a half-hour live auction of WCDS student art pieces. Local businesses and other friends of WCDS are invited to participate as a patron or supporter. With a donation of $500 (75% tax deductible), patrons will receive four reservations for the show, beginning with an exclusive patrons champagne cocktail reception at 6.00 p. m., and promotional advertising. Supporters who make a $200 donation (75% tax deductible), will receive reservations for two, as well as promotional advertising.
