Wakefield District Supervisor Roger Welch said land-use taxation has become a hot-button issue as property values htive risen. A higher demand for rural land since Sept. 11, 2001, has caused a larger disparity between assessed values and land-use values of agricultural land.
Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins said at the misting that property in the land-use system is taxed at the value of what that land is capable of producing.
