Well, the General Assembly of Virginia is once again in session. I arrived m Richmond early this veat' to attend a meeting of the V i rgi nia Immigration i onimission. The weather had been unseasonably warm, so one evening before the session started l took a stroll through Capitol Square to take it all in. As I walked. I was awed by the beauty and grandeur of our newly restored capitol building, conceived bv Thomas Jefferson and built m 1788. Now after two years ot work, it has been fully restored t o a condition befitting its place in V irgmia's history as a monument to representative democracy. As I stood there fixated on Jefferson’s "temple on the hill" glowing a onght white against the night sky. I was struck by how lucky I am to represent the citizens of my (listnet. 1 remmded myself to remain ever-mindful of the fact that my fellow citizens have honor'd me w ith the responsibility of casting votes on their behalf in rhis special place.
