“It's really just an issue of investigating all your options early,” Whorton said. “It’s generally not something you can accomplish in just one day with an attorney. You have to plan and execute it over a long period of time, depending on how you set it up.”
Local farmers Lindsay Eastham, Dick McNear and Bryant Lee will share their experiences with estate planning for their family farms.
McNear was director of planning and zoning in Fauquier for 20 years and was the consultant that helped write Rappahannock’s zoning ordinance in the early-1980s.
McNear raises beef cattle on 700 acres in Gid Brown Hollow and is in the process of passing the property on to his three daughters.
