Richards said the county’s involvement brings greater protection to the land - a plus for both PEC and the owners. And, she said, PEC agreed to bear most of the monitoring responsibilities associated with the easement, so the county will be held to few duties.
“It’s a perpetual obligation,” Richards said. “We’re on the hook to make sure those easement terms are upheld in perpetuity.”
For the Bagievs, the easement brings the knowledge that their land will be forever protected.
“The land, there is no more to be had, and if we continue to develop it at the rate Northern Virginia and Loudoun have - and Fauquier to some extent - we will lose the beauty of Rappahannock,” Delma Bagley said.
