“I think the Bagley property is an example of where you can get a lot of conservation value under 100 acres,” she said. “We’re filling a hole that needed to be filled this year.”
Richards said that prohibiting development on the land will help protect the Hazel River from runoff and other contamination. And she said that the trees that line the river, which runs through the Bagleys’ property, also provide a shady, cool habitat for native fish.
Richards said the agreement will also help preserve the scenic beauty of the countryside. The surrounding properties are in easement, so filling in the gap with the Bagleys’ land will protect a large swath of country.
