Makela came to the rescue by adapting his design to the conapHcatioos of our home. We have no covered deck, so he attached the copper pipe to the side of the house. A right-angled piece of tubing at the top extends about eighteen inches from the house. A chain run through the tubing allows easy lowering of the feeders to fill them.
In addition to food, birds need fresh water for drinking and bathing. When pools and ponds freeze, they must make longer trips to find running water somewhere in a stream, using valuable energy and exposing them to predators.
