interviewed by a team of public health epidemiologists and blood samples were taken. The results were negative.
Extensive air samples taken while the plant was in operation on June 14 showed only traces of a transporting agent cominon in self* defense aerosol canisters. The agent is known chemically as 1,1,1-Trichlbtoethane.
The substance is not used in the plant’s operation. Health authorities speculate its presence in the air samples were caused by the accidental or intentional release from a spray canister.
“The chemical does not appear to be in any way associated with this plant’s operation,” said Dr. Robert S. Jackson, assistant state health commissioner and medical director of the occupational health program.
