Earlier, Robinson had informed Governor Godwin that the situation was extremely serious in most of the area, and asked his early endorsement of disaster relief requests coming forward from county governing bodies.
“The 4th of July recess of the Congress gave me opportunity to observe the pathetic situation firsthand in various parts of the 7th District, and it is clear that farmers are in the midst of an agricultural disaster of major proportions, with severe economic losses inevitable,” Robinson commented.
He said Virginia Agriculture Commissioner S. Mason Carbaugh had assured him that his office had been busy developing data to support Governor Godwin’s request for federal aid.
Robinson is a member of the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.
