next morning there were no sign of cattle tracks. The arm; pulled out early next morning and made no effort to find the cattle. I found my father and led him back in the woods and showed him 44 cattle I had stolen from the Yankees. My father said, “Well, for these cattle I’m giving you that horse you are riding.” That made me very happy for that was just what I wanted and was the first horse I ever owned.
When the Yankees camped here that night the officers searched the house and in the basement they found a barrel of brandy. An officer was afraid the soldiers would find it and drink so much that they would become unruly and unmanageable, so they took an ax and knocked the head out of the barrel and let out the brandy on the dirt floor. After they left I went in to see and there were some apples floating in the brandy. I picked the apples out of the brandy and I thought they were the best apples I ever ate.

Benefit Dinner
The Castleton Ladies’ Auxiliary is having a Ham and Turkey Dinner July 24 from 2 p.m until 7 p.m’. at the Castleton Community Fire Hall. Adults will be $4.50 and children under 12—$2.50. There will be prizes given after dinner.
