J&S Nips

Sonics

Jacobs and Smith nearly ran into a hornet’s nest Sunday when the Sperryville Sonics came to Fauquier, but the host team managed to put together a pair of wins on scores of 14-13 and 11-3.

GAME ONE. The Sonics surprised their hosts by exploding with enough hits to send 13 runners home, but J&S stood firm ground to nip the opposition by one run.

Creasy sparked the winning rally with a 4-5 performance, supported with two hits each from Pilcher, Frye, Koval, James and Jacobs.

Settle, Burke and Wharton led the Sonics with three hits in four at bats each while teammate Leake went 2-4 at the plate.

Gene Jacobs picked up the win and Hitt was tagged with the loss.

GAME TWO. With the same pitchers squaring off on the mound as in the first game, J&S boosted their record to 15-7 with an 11-3 win over the Sonics, now standing at 8-12. Breeden turned in a perfect 3-3 performance for J&S, aided by Pilcher and Thom who each went 2-3. Settle, Hitt and Payne each connected for two hits to lead the Sonics.
