The Consumer Price Index for this area increased 1.8 per cent to 185.5 (1967 prices equal 100) during the three months ended in August.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U. S. Department of Labor reported that higher prices for food and household services led the advance.,
The Washington CPI was 7.2 per cent above August 1976. The U. S. city average CPI rose 6.6 per cent from August of last year.
The food index, which includes food purchased in grocery stores and restaurants, rose 1.8 per cent from May to August, following increases of 3.7 and 2.1 per cent during the three months ended in February and May 1977, respectively.
