Enrollment
Sets Record
Lord Fairfax Community College begins its eighth academic year with record enrollment. More than 1800 students, approximately thirty per cent increase over last year, signed up for classes this fall, according to C. Todd Smith, registrar.
College administrators attributed the increase to a mailout sent to over 45,000 citizens of the community served by the college informing them of course offerings, improved newspaper and radio coverage of available courses, and to a greater variety of subjects taught than in the past.
The two-year college, designed to serve the community by providing continuing education for anyone 18 and over, including associate degree and certificate programs, presently has an average student age of 26.
Operating on a quarter system, the fall session began last week. Gasses will end before Christmas.
