Edward E. Lane, Democratic candidate for Attorney General, pledged that if he is elected he would work to make Virginia one of the first states in the nation to initiate a “Crime Watch” program. The program would include the following: —a home burglary protection effort. —Operation Identification to mark valuable personal property. —a commercial and personal security campaign. —a theft and fraud protection program. —and rural crime prevention.
“I am convinced that only through increased citizen awareness of the developing crime problem and the means available to prevent it, can we expect to achieve significant results. Only then will we be able to educate individuals and involve citizen groups in crime prevention,” Lane said.
