Commonwealth’s Attorney George Davis advised the Supervisors that they were not obligated to pay Hawkins’s bill but could do so legally if they chose to.

In another matter related to insurance, Sheriff W. A. Buntin reported that his department’s liability premiums had more than doubled with a jump from $75 per person in 1976 to $188 for the coming 12 months.
Last year, Buntin continued, the State Compensation Board approved two-thirds reimbursement to the localities for high risk liability insurance premiums. He told the Supervisors that he had contacted Compensation Board Executive Secretary John Rasnick and had been informed that Rasnick didn’t know what type of reimbursement policy the Board would approve this year in light of the premium increase.
Supervisor H. B. Wood asked when Rappahannock County had begun liability coverage for the Sheriffs Department.
