The Rappahannock Supervisors probably weren’t aware of the timeliness of action taken at last Thursday’s Board meeting but their decision to install fire extinguishers at the courthouse coincides with national Fire Prevention Week (October 9 through 15).
At the September Board meeting, a lighting fixture in the courtroom caught fire but, luckily, produced smoke instead of flames until the power was cut off. In view of the accident, Supervisor Chairman E. P. Luke suggested on Thursday that the Board install fire extinguishers in the building.
“I don’t think there’s one here,” he commented. Luke added that he’d also asked electrician Everett Estes to check wiring in the courthouse.
