Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor Charles S. Robb said Wednesday that new jobs in all parts of Virginia are essential to the future of all regions of the state.
“We have to remember that economic development—and that means jobs for all Virginians—must be balanced between the growing urban corridor and the rest of the state,” Robb said.
“We need to achieve a balance between urban and rural population patterns. It would be tragic if a lack of jobs turned our countryside into a wasteland as people were forced off the land and away from our towns and medium-sized cities.”
The major role of the next lieutenant governor, Robb 'said, would be in the area of economic development. "The Lieutenant Governor has the freedom to work closely with local officials and the prestige to negotiate directly with corporate leaders,” Robb said.
