About this time of year, farmers may be experiencing problems with poorly growing areas in their corn fields, said Stephen J. Donohue, Virginia Tech Extension specialist in soil and plant analysis. “This may result from a nutritional imbalance in the soil."
Donohue said one of the best and most direct approaches in isolating the problem is plant tissue analysis. While plant analysis is usually more difficult to interpret than a soil test, one will generally be able to isolate a specific nutritional problem more quickly using plant analysis.
