Pryde interjected that he'd divided his property in a manner he felt would protect both himself, as he was planning to live there, and Dr. Quaintance. Noting that his health did not allow him to continue farming, he said his children would sell the property if he died tomorrow—whether the land was subdivided or not. “I’ve done this with a lot of thought,” he said. “I didn't just split it up."
“I noticed that the larger lots are adjacent to my property and I appreciate that," Dr. Quaintance responded. He repeated that Pryde had been a good neighbor but added that this was coincidental. “I’m opposed in principle” to subdivision of farm land, he stated.
After a discussion on the technicalities of the rezoning—exactly which parcels were involved and how to word the motion—the Planners voted unanimously to recommend approval of Pryde’s rezoning application to the Board of Supervisors.
