In the congressional races, four incumbents will have free rides. G. William Whitehurst (R-Setfond District), Robert W. (Bob) Daniel (R-Fourth), W. C. (Dan) Daniel (D-Fifth) and M.^Caldwell Butler (R-Sixth) are without opposition. David E. Satterfield 111 (DThird) is also assured of reelection. His opponent is Independent Allen R. Ogden of the U. S. Labor Party. The opposition is regarded as token.

In the cases of Whitehurst, Bob Daniel and Butler, local Democrats were unable to come up with candidates willing to mount a challenge.

In those of Dan Daniel and Satterfield, two of the most conservative members of the United Stales Congress, the Republicans saw no point in contesting their reelection.

It would have been impossible to find more conservative candidates within the responsible range of the political spectrum to oppose them, and it would have run wildly against the grain of the current GOP image to challenge them with moderate or liberal Republicans.

In three other seats, the GOP incumbents face more serious challenges, although the Republicans are heavily favored to win reelection.
