The Rappahannock ' Council of Senior Citizens 1 directed attention to rising 1 utility rates at the Seniors’ 1 meeting last Tuesday, August 15, at the Trinity Episcopal Church parish hall in Washington.
The Council passed resolutions opposing Potomac Edison’s request for more than S2 million in rate increases, noting that the utility company has received more than $3,600,000 in increases over the past three years. The Council members also urged repeal of all utility surcharges and registered opposition to the deregulation of natural gas. With regard to natural gas, it was pointed out that the Congressman who represents this district in the U. S. House of Representatives, J. Kenneth Robinson, twice voted for higher natural gas prices and higher oil prices. According to "Voting Record,” a newsletter released by the National Council of Senior Citizens, the Congressman has tailed to vote for measures that would benefit senior citizens
