If Bloomer’s proposal for a primary reading lab is approved by regional director Smith, he hopes to start Title I students in the Bookmark series right off the bat in first grade. He explained that other materials which reinforce skills learned in the Bookmark series will be used in the lab to satisfy the federal requirement that the Title programs be supplemental. In that way, it will be possible to use Bookmark even though it is the standard text in regular instruction. “We can reinforce the same skills as long as we use different materials,’’ Bloomer said.
