Lewis Lovelace Smedley, 85, of Luray died November 1, 1978 at the Newton D. Baker Hospital in Martinsburg, W. Va., where he had been a patient for two years.

He was born August 31, 1893 in Rappahannock County, a son of the late William Harvey and Julia Clark Smedley.

He retired after spending 21 years with Woodward and Lothrop Protection Department. He was a World War 1 veteran and a member of the Oakley Brethren Church in Washington.
