The Rappahannock Supervisors agreed at their November 2 Board meeting to write a letter of support to Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson, backing his bill to freeze Shenandoah National Park boundaries at the current 194,(XX) acres.
Chairman E. P. Luke reported that legislation passed in 1926 authorized a Park area of 521,000 acres with boundaries stretching down to Route 231 in the F. T. Valley and encompassing the community of Syria. At his suggestion, the Board authorized supporting the maintenance of “existing boundaries.”
Robinson introduced House of Representatives’ Bill 14225 on October 4, 1978—too late for action in the recently adjourned session. According to the Congressman, he will reintroduce his bill in the next session that convenes in January, 1979.
