“Shipley said this building is a horrible example. It could really be a trap,” Baumgardner reported.
Commonwealth Attorney George Davis asked if it would be possible—and cheaper—to change the location of the furnace that currently sits directly under the only exit from the upstairs court room.
“We’d still have to have another exit,” Baumgardner answered. Moving the furnace wouldn’t change the state requirement for a second exit, he said, adding that the present furnace site “just accents the seriousness” of the Fire Code violation.
The Board agreed that Baumgardner should check the academy at New Market and report back on the design used there for an outside fire escape.
An estimate of SI,152 from Madison contractor Omar Stoltzfus for repairs to windows, porches and gutters at the jail was approved by the Board.
