That was Supervisor Garence Baldwin’s response to an executive order from Governor John Dalton calling on local government to work out plans for staggered hours with gas retailers.
In announcing the order at last Thursday’s meeting of the Rappahannock Supervisors, Chairman E. P. Luke asked the board members if they wanted to meet with gas station operators “and find out who can be open when.” Luke explained that Dalton’s order mandates staggered hours with each station in a critically designated area required to stay open at least one day of the weekend. He noted that Rappahannock County had not yet been identified as a critical area.
According to the order, any plan for staggered hours should “endeavor to insure that sufficient gasoline is available to be sold during all designated hours of operation during the month.” Violation of the order, effective June 28, will bring a $100 fine.
