To the editor:
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and the Washington Business Council would like to express their appreciation for the general community’s cooperation and assistance which made the Fourth of July a very special day. It was a real joy to work with so many diverse groups, businesses, and willing individuals. Special thanks to the Washington Town Council for its cooperation and especially to Mr. William Carrigan for his annual evening festivities. If only the weather had cooperated it would have been a perfect day.

To the editor:
With all due respect to Robert Eastham, we do not believe that his election to the school board is defensible.
No one, not even brother Granville, mentioned Robert Eastham’s name at the public meeting intended precisely for the purpose of suggesting candidates.
There appears, also, to be a conflict of interest with brother Granville on the electoral board.
