Drop 35%

Judging from a drop in the number of visitors to Shenandoah National Park, the gas crunch is having an impact on travel in the state of Virginia. For June, 1979, compared with June, 1978, the decrease in visits is 35.7 per cent, dropping from 230,300 to 148,000.

For Calendar Year 1979 compared with Calendar Year 1978, the decrease is 14.6 per cent. In addition, overnight stays dropped from 85,792 in 1978 to 67,422 in 1979.

Weather readings taken at Big Meadows station show the maximum temperature for June as 77 degrees and the minimum as 41 degrees. Precipitation for the month totalled 5.48 inches.
