There are five times when a person should get in touch with a social security office, Bruce A. Hundley, social security manager in Culpeper, said recently.
Knowing the five times for action is too important to take for granted. It can mean greater security for a worker and his or her family, Hundley said.
The five times are: —Before a person gets his or her first job—to apply for a social security card. A person should allow 4 to 6 weeks to get a card.
—After a death in the family—to see if survivors’ benefits or a lump sum death payment are payable.
