Mid July is a critical time in the management of fescue for successful winter grazing. For high quality winter feed, fescue should be grazed or mowed down to 2-3 inches by August 1-15. Overgrazing slows regrowth while undergrazing allows low quality growth carry over into winter. August 1-15 is also the time to top dress with Nitrogen plus P2 and 05 and K20 if needed.
