Hammond, an Amissville landowner who lives in Washington, D.C., has billed the Rappahannock Supervisors $9,900 for unauthorized use of her property as a site for county dumpsters. In a letter read at the July 5 board meeting, Mrs. Hammond charged that placement of 11 dumpsters for 30 months had caused the property to deteriorate.
She maintained that the location of dumpsters on her land had lowered the settlement she could expect from the Virginia Department of Highways for the property in a condemnation suit scheduled for September 12 hearing. Once the $9,900 for use and damages is paid, Mrs. Hammond said in her letter, she will be happy to negotiate another contract with the board.
