A pair of “city slickers" who are weekend residents of the county showed up the full-time Rappahannock tennis buffs at the tennis championships sponsored by the Rappahannock Recreation Center on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.
Don and Ann Brown of Washington, D. C., entered three of the five classes offered and won all three. They defeated Fanning and Ruth Baumgardner in mixed doubles; 6-2 and 6-0. Diane Bruce went down in defeat to Ann Brown in the women’s singles by a score of 6-1 and 6-3 while Don Brown defeated Rod Kirkpatrick in the men’s singles’ 6-2 and 60.
In the men’s doubles, Rayner Snead and Dennis Fairbrother beat Keeton Barnes and Jens Tholand; 61 and 6-2.
