According to the comprehensive plan, housing units have increased from 1,738 in 1950 to 2,023 in 1970, a jump of 16.4 per cent. In 1970, 76.4 units were occupied year round—only a slight change from the 76.0 per cent occupied fulltime in 1950.

Owner occupied housing has increased from 59.1 per cent in 1950 to 68 per cent in 1970, a percentage substantially higher than the State of Virginia rate for owner occupied housing, 62.1 per cent.

Rappahannock’s housing stock is relatively old, according to the comprehensive plan, with 76 per cent of all units constructed in or before 1939.
