prelude to the showing of the Old Gay Street Theatre “the best hunting movie since Tom Jones”, as Thoughts on Fox Hunting was described in the September issue of CLASSIC magazine. The documenting is by Tom Davenport, a young Delaplane, Va. based filmmaker. It has been shown only twice, once at the Middleburg Community Center, once at the Kennedy Center in D. C. Featured performers are Melvin Poe and his wife Peggy, huntsman and whip respectively, of Virginia’s highly esteemed Orange County Hunt. Some of the cavalcades were shot by Catherine Hartz of Hume, an expert horsewoman who held the reins in one hand and a 12-pound camera in the other. The viewer feels he is actually right in there with the hounds during their hottest pursuits of the fox.
The turn has no score and needs none, with its sound track of drumming hoofs, the huntsman’s horn and unearthly cries, and the thrilling music of hounds.
