Two Camp Spring, Md., men, Douglas Armentrout and C. P. Dalpra, were charged by Park Rangers with hunting in Shenandoah National Park on September 16, after they were observed pursuing a deer with a weapon along Skyline Drive. Both men were charged with a violation of the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 36, Section 2.32 Hunting, and Armentrout was additionally charged with Section 2.11, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The same two men were again observed in the Park on September 19, and Rangers seized a compound hunting bow.
Park Rangers at Shenandoah have stepped up their efforts to curb illegal bear and deer hunting in the Park by increasing patrols and staking out known areas of illegal hunting. Persons found hunting within the Park are subject to fines up to $500 and confiscation of their weapons and vehicles used in the hunting incident or by imprisonment not to exceed six months or both.
