Senator McCarthy compared the two major parties with good humored remarks, then, in a more serious vein, went on to point out a few of the dangers presently facing the United States. He concluded by saying, “I advise young people now to become Republicans.” (McCarthy ran for President as a Democrat in 1%8 and as an Independent in 1972) He received enthusiastic applause and the meeting was adjourned.
Both Garland Steger and Mrs. Carney agreed the session was one of the most interesting Republican meetings ever held in Rappahannock County.
