Many of us have known relatives or friends who were experiencing a great deal of stress in their daily lives and yet were projecting the attitude of, “I’m not so crazy or angry or depressed that I’m going to shell out fifty bucks to have someone listen to my troubles for an hour. Why should I do that when I can yell at my kids and feel better, or retreat to my room and let the world quietly pass me by.”

While it is true that some private psychologists and psychiatrists do charge $50.00 for an hour of psychotherapy, there is an alternative. The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Menatl Health Center provides outpatient services, such as individual therapy, marital counseling, family therapy, and others. These services are available to the community through federal, state and local funds. While it is the responsibility of the Mental Health Center to recover the cost of services from persons who receive them, no person is ever denied treatment because of inability to pay the cost.

Many of the people who come to the outpatient clinics of the Center have private or group insurance, Medicaid or Medicare which provide payment for part or all of the cost of the service.
