Do problems ever arise on these foreign trips? According to Lynn, the worst thing that has happened is that a student lost his passport last year in Greece. The U.S. embassy in Athens simply issued him a new passport, resolving the crisis, Lynn said. Another time a student had an allergenic reaction to a bee sting. "Luckily,” “we always take along a registered nurse to handle such emergencies.” he said.
“We put great emphasis on good manners and proper behavior,” Lynn says. "We insist that the students be good representatives of their country. Dressed formally in the school uniform, they are an impressive sight and never fail to elicit comments of admiration wherever theygo," he continued.
Wakefield’s Headmaster feels that his school’s trips, a sort of Grand Tour in segments, have proved of immense educational value and should be continued in the years ahead. Planning is already under way for next year’s trip to Egypt, he says.
